The Belvedere name first appeared as a hardtop model for the Cranbrook in Plymouth model year 1951. In 1954, the Belvedere nameplate became Plymouth’s flagship model until 1970.
By the 1960s, the Belvedere was in a head-on battle with Ford’s Galaxie 500 and the Chevrolet Impala. Although the dimensions of the Belvedere remained the same, the nameplate evolved between the mid-size and full-size models in the range.
Known to MOPAR purists as the “Gentleman’s Car,” this 1967 Belvedere GTX is equipped with the legendary “Super Commando 440.” Dubbed the largest GT engine found in the world, the 7.2-liter “Big Block V8” produced 375 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. He completed the 1/4 mile in 14.4 seconds @ 92.9 mph according to Car & Driver.
The 1967 Belvedere GTX was “the most exciting supercar to come out of Detroit in years” according to Plymouth. With its rugged looks and timeless style, this Plymouth Belvedere GTX is sure to create an immediate bond with its next owner.
